A Californian originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Dana Michaels is the author of the later-in-life, contemporary romance novel, In Your Dreams!.
Now retired, she began writing In Your Dreams! while writing and doing media relations for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, after working in the State Parks Office of
Public Relations. For CDFW she was lead Information Officer at major oil and chemical spills throughout California until a promotion to Marketing Specialist allowed her to focus on rare, threatened, and endangered species and their habitats.
Before joining state service, Dana was a radio personality in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, Anchorage—and at Lake Tahoe, where she was also News and Public Affairs Director then Program and Promotions Director. Seventy-five percent of her brain is filled with song lyrics.
Once upon a time she was a stand-in actor and TV booth announcer, and worked in TV production and news in Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Anchorage. She still does occasional freelance voice work and is a member of the (Sacramento) Valley Broadcast Legends. (That name is tongue-in-cheek, by the way.)
Free time during those years was spent doing volunteer publicity work for the National Organization for Women, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the American Lung Association.
Dana has been published in Outdoor California, Fish and Game Today, and World Pipelines (yes, really) magazines and has won nine writing awards. Her Bachelor of Arts degree is in Behavioral Science.
She really wanted to sing and act, but you know how few people actually make it in those careers… She still plays guitar with friends and occasionally with a traditional Scottish quartet. When not writing, Dana does yard work, reads, and enjoys movies and crossword puzzles when she should be purging and cleaning the garage. In Your Dreams! is her first novel—the first in the Dreams series. She plans to write at least two more books starring the In Your Dreams! protagonists, Kat Mancini and Jamie Knight.
